Guest Designer - Heena Shaikh

Hi All,

We have today a Super Gorgeous Mixed Media Project by our Guest Designer - Heena Shaikh. Her works speaks much of her awesome style of Crafting.

Over to her,

"Hello Mudra Fans!
I'm Heena from I’m a 23 yr old passionate crafter from Mumbai, India. I started paper crafting about 4 years ago although painting and crafting was my hobby since childhood , I started with Quilling and Punch Craft and kept exploring the world of paper crafting through the internet and discovered the art of Mix Media and scrapbooking, a lot of my inspiration comes from nature and I gravitate more towards vintage and shabby styles, warm colours, floral patterns and botanical art. Apart from crafting I love baking and cake decorating, I’m a self-taught baker, I enjoy tinkering in my home bakery when I’m not crafting. I’m a DIY lover and I love making paper flowers and pretty much anything that’s crafty!
Today I have a mixed media canvas to share using the gorgeous Mudra Chipzeb chippies and stencils.

  • For this project, I have taken an 8 by 10'' stretched canvas. I started off by adding some texture using the Mudra brick wall stencil ( for this I made a coarse grey texture paste by adding some mini art stones and black gesso to my modelling paste)
  • To add some more texture I applied some modelling paste through the Grunge stencil at random places.
  • Now to make the background more interesting I used the Mudra old script stamp and stamped at random places using black archival ink.
  • After everything dried I coloured the background with some Lindy's and highlighted the textures by dry brushing with white gesso.
  • Next, I took the small flower stamp from the botanical blooms stamp set and stamped small flower bunches and fussy cut them, I also stamped some leaves and fussy cut them as well.
  • I have also used some floral fussy cuts from my stash.
  • I have used the Mudra chipzeb chippies (which I'm absolutely in love with) leafy swirls and words1 and I haven't coloured them because they look beautiful just as is.
  • To embellish the canvas I have used some flowers from Prima,  art stones, green moss, glass glitter, IOD mould clay embellishments, art pebbles.
  • Lastly, I added some splatters of white gesso.
I hope you liked my creation and found it inspirational!

Happy crafting, Heena xo"

Did you see the awesome textures and pretty layerings and this is such an apt project for our ongoing Challenge at our blog : Floral&Texture

Thank yo Heena Shaikh for churning this awesomeness for our viewers.
Guys, hope you are all inspired enough to try out seeing this beauty!!

Happy Crafting!!

Uma here with you today. First off- Do you check Mudra's new release? Mudra launched amazing stamps and beautiful chipzeb this month. Perfect for all art forms ( cards, scrapbook,  mixed media etc.).
Today I have created two tags using mixed media techniques. Here are my projects.

Cherish Vintage Tag:

  • Handcut a tag from a thick chipboard. Choose a pattern paper from my stash , distress the edges of the pattern paper using scissors.
  • Adhere the pattern paper using glue. Choose one more pattern paper, distress the edges and adhere it on the tag using foam tape to add dimension as shown in the pic.
  • Apply modelling paste using Mudra's grunge stencil.
  • Dap the vintage photo distress oxide on the craft matt, spray little bit of water. Apply the color with the brush.
  • Stamp some leaves using versafine on white cardstock and fussy cut them.
  • Glue half paper dolly. Glue fussy cut leaves, a chipzeb ring and some flowers as shown in the pic.
  • Tie a bow with the ribbon and glue it.
  • Stamp a butterfly using versafine and color it with mist also stamp a sentiment with versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder.
  • Paste the sentiment and butterfly using dimensional tape .
  • For finished look stick mini micro pearls using glue that dries clear.

Butterfly Hugs Tag:

  • Handcut a tag from a thick chipboard and adhere a pattern over it.
  • Take some pieces of pattern paper and distress the edges using a pair of scissors.
  • Randomly stamp the butterfly image using versafine ink pad.
  • Layer the piece of pattern paper using foam tape.
  • Tie a cord horizontally on the tag.
  • Colour the tag using distress oxide (wilted violet & cracked pistachio).
  • Apply soft matt gel on the cord and add some art stones.
  • Stamp some leaves using Mudra's leaves stamp and fussy cut them. Glue them on the tag as shown in the pic.
  • Choose a die cut from my stash and stamp a sentiment using versafine. Adhere it on the middle of the tag using foam tape to add dimension.
  • Color a butterfly chipzeb using versafine ink pad . Glue some flowers and butterfly chipzeb using hot glue.

Trio of Floral Mixed Media Cards

Hi Folks!
Good Morning :)

Preeti Datta (aka Dutt Preety) here. Hope you are doing well.

First up, have you checked out the 30, yes 30!! super cool new Chipzeb chipboard designs released this month by Mudra ? There is something for everyone! To view the release post, please click HERE

For today's post, I'd like to share a set of three Floral Mixed Media Cards which will be my inspiration for the current Mudra Challenge #20- "Floral & Texture". I've also prepared a pictorial for these cards. I've made paper flowers using Mudra's Cut3 dies & also stamped flowers. To add texture, I've applied modelling paste through Mudra's gorgeous stencils, created multiple layers & used the beautiful chipzeb chipboards. These are large sized cards (5 by 9 inches in size).

**This is a photo heavy post & I hope you'll stay with me till the end**

Here are some photos of the Floral Mixed Media Cards:

Card 1: Happy Birthday

Card 2: Best Wishes

Card 3: Thanks a Bunch

Pictorial: Step by Step Process

1. Applied Heavy White Gesso to watercolor paper (cut to 4.25 by 8.25 inches) to prep the surface of the 3 panels, then applied modelling paste through Mudra's Brick, Geo Pattern & Floral Abstract Stencils. For adding more texture, some black thread was also attached to the wet modelling paste.

2. Grey and black colors were added to the stenciled design using Lindy's sprays and then background stamping was done using various shades of grey and black archival inks. Mudra's Old Script, Pattern it 2, Go Confident, Rustic Diamond and Hexa Mini Stamps were used.

3. 3D paper flowers were made using Mudra's Cut3 Gardenia Dies, Dress My Craft Floral Oriental Papers & Groove Golf Tools. Archival inks were used to color the flowers and pollens were attached to their centers.

4. Flowers were stamped from Mudra's Doodled Elements, Wild Rose & Mehendika Stamps onto watercolor paper. Then colored using the Ink Smooshing Technique (Ink from Zig Markers was scribbled onto a non-stick mat, sprayed with water and the stamped images were smooshed onto it to create a splattery & textured colored look.) Then these were fussy cut.

5. Titles were prepared by stamping sentiments from Mudra's Purely Sentiments- Labelled Stamp & then cut into strips.

6. Leaves from Mudra's Gardenia Dies were colored using Lindys Sprays (with the same ink smooshing technique)

7. Butterflies were stamped using Mudra's Grungy Butterflies Stamp, then heat embossed and fussy cut

8. Grey and black paper mats were created for the panels (at increasing size intervals of 0.25 inches) and their edges were distressed to get a textured and weathered look

9. Some of the Chipzeb Chipboards (Victorian Circles, Victorian Rectangles, Elegant Frames & Mehendika) used here were colored black with black gesso

10. All the elements (3d flowers, leaves, stamped flowers, butterflies, Chipzeb chipboard, gauze, sisal, pollens & thread) were layered and 3 different designs/compositions were created for the cards. Some of the elements were adhered with liquid glue and others with 3d foam tape for added dimension.

11. As a finishing touch, to add sparkle, Mudra's Couture Sequins- Sugar Plum Mix & Clear were added to the cards using glossy accents. In the end, white splatter was created with watered down white gesso.
