Dare to fly.! Mixed media canvas tutorial

Hello dear friends
Riswana here today. I am sure you are enjoying Mudra's April release stampsets and the amazing inspirations from my teamies.
Today I'll be sharing a simple mixed media canvas art with a step by step pictorial. I love mixed media for the creative freedom it gives and also the chance to learn something new every single time. I've kept this one pretty simple so that it'll be easier to get used to various techniques and media. Now let's get on to it.!
Here's the project

Supplies:
It's difficult to choose specific supplies for MM art as it feels great to go with the flow. But it's good to have a very basic plan and keep related supplies close by.

Stampsets used:

Steps:
  • Take a 6×8" canvas board & stamp the butterfly images from the Grungy butterfly stampset to roughly determine the layout.
Canvas is a very textured surface, so it's alright if you don't get a very crisp image.

  • Apply paints using a paint brush or fingers, blending them well. Here I've used Dylusions paints (vibrant turquoise, fresh lime) and distress paint (mustard, seed as I didn't have the yellow one from dylusions) ;)

Note: Dylusions & distress paints kinda resist each other so the blending doesn't look good at the moment but as it dries it becomes smooth.

  • To create interest to the bg, randomly stamp the flourishes from Fancy flourish stampset using co ordinating distress inks to get a tone on tone look.
Here i've used shabby shutters, peacock feathers, mustard seed. Then stamp with Pattern it #1 randomly with black soot distress ink. These stamp sets are super awesome to create bgs so easily.

  • Add shading around the butterfly using Faber castell mix and match gelatos again with darker colors & use black water color pencil near the outline. You can also sponge inks from inside out to get the effect.
Add some white splashes with gesso.
   • Stamp the quote from Dare to fly stamp set with black ink (i've used distress ink so that I can wipe off with a wet baby wipe in case i messed up)
Add texture paste through Stencil at random areas with a palette knife. Here i've used Ranger texture paste & Prima bubbles stencil.

  • Stamp the butterflies on water color paper with memento tuxedo black ink & color it with any medium of choice. I used Zig clean color brushes (This is my very first time yayy.!!!) Am so glad i got them :)
I always like to reinforce my images with a black fine liner pen after i finish coloring. You can totally skip it though. Added highlights with uniball signo white gel pen & fussy cut them all.
I used the back of brush to shape and bend the butterflies a bit. A little bit of dimension goes a long way. I adhered the them on to the canvas with Aleene's tacky glue and foam squares.

• Finally add white gesso with a palette knife around the canvas to form a grungy border & give a complete look.
Your canvas is now ready to be mounted on the wall :)  Here are few close up shots showing the dimensions.

I hope you liked this project and found the tutorial helpful. Please feel free to ask away any questions or doubts in the comments section. I'll be happy to help & try to clarify as best as I can. Also pls lemme kno any suggestions so that I can improve :)
